Halloween is over and that means we are in full Christmas Season Mode! We will give Thanksgiving it’s day, but let’s be honest, Christmas is really the star of this season. Since I love seasonal decor and baking, this next two month span is really my time to shine.
This year my daughter is a little older (4 and three-quarters) and she’s so much fun to do things with. She remembers traditions we started last year and asks to do them again. She has already asked to make hot chocolate more times than I can count and she wants to start holiday baking with me! Baking is probably what I look forward to the most. I loved baking with my mom and my favorite days were spent frosting sugar cookies. I have so many ideas for Christmas treats and I cannot wait to make them with my daughter. I have had to let go of my baking perfection tendencies and learn to go with the flow more – is my tree cookie frosted pink, yep and just let it go!
One of my other favorite traditions is my annual cookie exchange party with my girlfriends. If someone is baking impaired, I let them bring drinks, but most people really bring out all the stops! Each year there is a new favorite along with some old ones (peanut butter blossoms). Last year I think my cake pops were my best yet. While I love all the treats, I just really love this night hanging out with my friends, coming up with a festive menu which always includes baked brie and catching up on all the gossip.
One of my favorite things about the cookie party, other than being with my favorite people, is planning the menu each year, deciding on a theme and pulling out all my seasonal serving dishes. I try not to go too crazy each year buying new items, but each year it seems like the stuff gets even more cute! It’s so fun setting up your table and creating a scene.

Obviously, I also love decorating for the season and the twinkly lights of Christmas can just fill me with happiness. I love setting up the tree, I love my decorative tree collection – and add one or two each year, I love putting up lights, I love it all.
Finally, I love holiday traditions that I did with my parents and siblings and am now doing with my daughter, but that my friends is for a different post!
